Our Mission

The VHMS PTO is committed to strengthening our school community by organizing and supporting activities that affirm that all students, families, and staff belong and are respected and by empowering students, families, and staff through engagement, education, and resources.

What We’ve Achieved

PTO actions include:

  • Providing scholarships for teachers’ continuing education (more info here)

  • Purchasing Hamilton t-shirts for all new incoming students

  • Roman Candle pizza kit fundraisers

  • Funding for the MathCounts student group

  • Holding monthly meetings via Zoom and sending out monthly newsletters

  • 8th Grade Movin’ On celebration

  • Staff appreciation events

  • Other programs that enrich student education and build community ties

Actions the PTO has taken in past years:

  • Hosting Student Arts Appreciation Night

  • Presentations on important topics, such as the history of racial inequalities in public education

  • Hosting a Movie Night for families

  • Organizing volunteers for events such as Soaring for a Cure Fun Walk and picture day

In 2020-21, the PTO’s focus was raising funds and requesting donations to assist Hamilton and westside MMSD families in need. Actions included:

  • Raising over 7K for the Hamilton Family Gift Fund (December 2020)

  • Donating over 27K to the West High Area Collaborative , to help MMSD families with rent and utility bills

  • Collecting cleaning and hygiene items needed by families (distributed by the Collaborative)

  • Purchasing 300+ can openers needed by families (distributed by the Collaborative)

  • Purchasing Hamilton spirit wear for students who needed financial assistance

  • Purchasing gas and grocery cards for Hamilton families who need financial assistance (ongoing)

  • Donating $500 to the May, 2021 Black Girl Magic Conference (for 6-8th graders)
